Josh studied electrical engineering and spent several years practicing IP law at a large law firm and later for the computer storage company Western Digital. As Cargill’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Pilar Cruz is responsible for leading the company’s efforts to drive transformational change in delivering sustainable supply chains for customers around the globe, while making agriculture part of how we deliver on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Emma Stewart, Ph.D., is the Netflix Sustainability Officer where she is responsible for the company’s climate and environmental strategy and execution. She joined Netflix officially in late 2020, having helped design the program while a consultant at ENGIE. She oversees all company-wide work to decarbonize Netflix corporate and production operations, to further raise environmental awareness through TV and film titles, to engage the 200+ million Netflix households on sustainability, and to partner with key influencers including researchers,
investors, employees, NGOs, and the media.
She previously led World Resources Institute’s global work on urban efficiency, climate, and finance, including the Institute’s research and technical assistance to cities and companies worldwide on climate planning, urban financing, zero carbon buildings, and electric mobility. She oversaw a portfolio of 20+ major projects and attracted $4M in new government or corporate funding each year. She and her team produced 3 seminal global reports on e-mobility and buildings, attracted media coverage by the New York Times and Reuters, and were selected by the UN Secretary General to be featured at the UN General Assembly in 2019.
Prior to joining WRI, she spent a decade leading software and sales teams creating and delivering sustainable design software for cities, architects, engineers, and contractors. In that capacity, she founded and directed design software giant Autodesk’s Sustainability Solutions department, where she led a product and go-to-market team to make sustainable design a “no-brainer” for millions of engineering and design customers. In 2009, she founded Autodesk’s Sustainable Design Living Lab program, which uses Autodesk facilities as a testing ground for new software to rapidly green existing buildings. Prior to joining Campbell’s in 2021, Stewart was the managing director of corporate engagement at The Nature Conservancy, the world’s largest environmental organization. As Vice President of Sustainability and Responsible Care, Mitch Toomey is responsible for leading the strategic implementation of ACC’s world-class EHS&S performance initiative and executing the industry’s commitment to sustainability – through innovation, collaboration, and technologies that enhance the safety and environmental impacts of ACC member products and operations.
Previously, Mitch served as Director of Sustainability for BASF Corporation and also spent more than 15 years with the United Nations and UN Development Programme (UNDP), where he helped champion the United Nations global social responsibility and sustainability movement. He also led UN engagement and expert dialogues for the 2012 Rio Conference on Sustainability, launched the UNDP Innovation Facility, and served as lead author for the UNDP Knowledge Management Strategy. Prior to joining the UN, Mitch worked in the private sector building two startups. Mitch earned both an MBA and BA from New York University.

Dr. Jeremy Gregory is Executive Director of the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium (MCSC). He has extensive experience in working with industry partners and diverse stakeholders across MIT. Through his research, Dr. Gregory studies the economic and environmental implications of engineering and system design decisions, particularly in the area of materials production and recovery systems. His research topics include product and firm environmental footprinting, manufacturing and life-cycle cost analysis, and characterization of sustainable material systems. He has applied these methods, often with industry partners, to a range of different products and industries including pavements, buildings, automobiles, electronics, consumer goods, and waste treatment and recovery.
In addition, Dr. Gregory has served as a Faculty Fellow within MIT’s Office of Sustainability since 2018. In this role, he has collaborated with administration, faculty, staff, and students across campus to conduct analyses related to strategies for lowering MIT’s environmental footprint, with a focus on scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
Prior to joining the MCSC, Dr. Gregory served as Executive Director of the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub, where he worked directly with industry leaders; drew links between academia, industry, and government; helped define strategy; and coordinated research activities with external collaborators.
Previously, Dr. Gregory was the Education Coordinator for the MIT Portugal Program’s Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing Focus Area, where he built education and research activities between MIT, three Portuguese universities, and numerous Portuguese companies.

Previously he served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment in the Biden Administration. Where he oversaw policy on all matters related to climate and energy, sustainability, and environmental initiatives. He directed the writing of the service’s first climate strategy and developed initiatives such as the Army’s sustainable building policy, the purchase of the Army’s first fully electric tactical vehicle, and a partnership with West Point to incorporate sustainability into the college curriculum and involve cadets in solving real world climate and sustainability issues for the Army.

Since taking on the complementary roles of Supply Chain and Sustainability in 2009, his team has enlisted more than 65,000 Verizon employees in 50 countries around the globe in helping to reduce the company’s environmental footprint while increasing the efficiency of a growing enterprise.
Gowen is deeply involved in the advancement of innovative and sustainable technologies and spearheaded the launch of Verizon’s first ever green bond in 2019. Since then, Gowen has been instrumental in Verizon issuing five additional $1 billion green bonds with the net proceeds allocated toward renewable energy investments to accelerate the transition to greener electrical grids across the U.S. As one of the leading corporate buyers of U.S. renewable energy, Verizon has over 3.6 gigawatts of anticipated renewable energy capacity under contact and 37.6 megawatts of on-site green energy generation in operation at our facilities. Gowen oversees other green initiatives including setting Verizon’s approved science based emissions reduction targets, committing to operational net zero emissions, expanding recycling and waste reduction, and management of end-of-life-cycle material recovery.
In his supply chain and sourcing role, Gowen leads all inventory planning, logistics operations and sourcing globally. Gowen is responsible for the planning of over $35B of inventory and $70B of sourcing spend across all Verizon’s lines of business. Additionally, Gowen has responsibility for procurement, warehousing, transportation, quality, returns and end-of-life monetization.
In 2015, Gowen spearheaded the start-up of Verizon Services Ireland Limited in Dublin, Ireland. He was responsible for transitioning $15B in annual spend for strategic sourcing of Verizon’s Network and IT operations. Over 85 industry professionals were hired and a state-of-the-art center of excellence was built under Gowen’s leadership in less than 7 months.
Having held several positions of increasing levels of responsibility at Verizon, Gowen was the lead architect of the company’s supply chain strategy and led the strategic shift from a fixed to a variable inventory business model. While in corporate sourcing, he led the implementation of Verizon’s eProcurement effort, and the standardization of Verizon’s supply chain systems.

Dr. Walter C. Fluharty is currently Sr. Vice President – Environmental Health and Safety – for Simon Roofing and Sheet Metal Corp and is responsible for safety, health, environmental and sustainability systems at their manufacturing facilities and 68 service centers nationwide.
In a career that spans more than 35 years, Dr. Fluharty has built a reputation developing world class safety cultures in a wide variety of industries. His experience includes developing the widely used training program, “It Can Happen Here”, which was funded by an OSHA New Directions Grant. He actively participated in the development of several OHSA standards including the Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and Cadmium Standards.

Appointed Chief Sustainability Officer in 2020, Raglin leads Norfolk Southern’s sustainability strategy by championing sustainable practices in the company’s daily operations to achieve efficiencies, control costs, generate revenue, and reduce environmental impacts. These efforts include close collaboration with department leaders company-wide, along with external stakeholders including customers, investors, suppliers, and regulators.
Raglin, a wildlife biologist, joined Norfolk Southern in 1996 as a Forest Ranger at Brosnan Forest, the company’s 14,400-acre conference and research facility in South Carolina. He would continue rising through the ranks at Brosnan Forest before being named General Manager in 2006.
For two decades, Josh led the railroad’s efforts to create a nature-based solutions platform. This innovative approach optimizes multiple ecological assets such as forest carbon sequestration, wetland and stream restoration, and land conservation while generating revenues from both forestry and traditional land-management practices.

Sam Israelit is an Advisory Partner in Bain’s San Francisco Office. For more than 24 years, he has worked with clients in the retail, manufacturing, and technology industries to help them transform their operations to improve cost, service levels, and resiliency. He is also Bain’s Chief Sustainability Officer, where he is responsible for Bain’s leading carbon management program, which has been recognized by EcoVadis and CDP as being in the top 1% of companies globally. He and his team lead Bain’s Carbon Net-Negative program and drive efforts to measure and reduce Bain’s carbon footprint, source its carbon instrument investments, and manage its public ESG reporting. In this role, he leads the firm’s investments in both nature- and technology-based carbon removal projects, as well as its long-term offtake agreements with its supplier partners.
